CHARGES AGAINST AN OFFICIAL. Another phnsre was reached in the Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon before Mr. E, Page, S.M., with regardto the charges against WUuun Joseph Mayer, of falsifying two. receipts from the Government State Fire Insurance Office, and failing to account for sums of monev totalling .«» 18s. Gd. the offences were alleged to have taken place in connection with tho transactions of the Post Office Pastimes Club while the accused was acting as treasurer of that H.'D. Edwards, accountant in the Postal Order and Savings Bank Depart, ment gave widened touching discrepancies he had discovered" in the account hooks of the club kept by the accused. Detective-Sergeant Lewis, who, arrestee; the acoused, gave evidence regarding certain statements made by tho »«««• Accused pleaded not guilty, reserved his defence, \ and was committor ♦<> tn* Supremo Court for trial.
