THREE MEN DISCOVERED ON CHRISTMAS. ISLAND. (By Telcgripli-PrcEß Association.) Auckland. October 2!. A private cablegram received by the "Herald" from Fanning Island rea.ds as follows:—'"The Now Zealand arrived via Samoa and Christmas Island, Octolicr 2U. Remained six lifltirs, Lord and Lady Jellicoii and staff were interested spectators of a tennis match against tlio cable staff, Fanning Island winning by ai gania* to 12. Tlie staff were entertained at lunch on board. Two white men and a native we.re picked up by tho New Zealand at Christmas Island. They had been eighteen months without outBide communication, living on fish and cocoanuts. They did not know the war was over. A white man met the landing party with a thinking they were Germans. The New Zealand left for Honolulu at 2 p.m."
