FIRE POLICE

ANNUAL MEETING. There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Wellington Volunteer Fire Police and Arohmteer Fire Corps, which was held last evening. In the unavoidable absence of the Mayor, the chair was occupied by Mr. M. F. Luckie, chairman of Ac Firo Brigade Committee of the City Council. The nineteenth, annual report recorded the fact that tho corps was now entering .upon. its. twentieth year of existence. The membership at tho present time comprised .a captain, four lieutenants, a treasurer, and fifteen other members. Owing to the small number of fires during tho year, the call on members had not been very great. During the past season the cor- - had won the Island Bay Challenge Shield in the card tournament, and were still holders of the trophy. . Mention was made of the loss tho corps had sustained through tho death of Mr. James Meyrick. 'Die balance-sheet showed the receipts for the year to bo ,£35 lis., and the expenditure <£20 Os. fid. This left a balance of .ffii 18s. Bd.. to the working account. Tho 6ick and accident fund showed a credit, of ,£9l is. lOd. ) The report and balance-sheet were adopted, and a presentation made to the hon., secretary .(Lieutenant. J. C. Cusack), whose- services were eulogised. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow:—Captain, Mr. J. Wright; lieutenants, Messrs. T. Ballinger, J? C. Cusack, A: Asher, J. A. Short; secretary, Mr. J. C. treasurer, Mr. F. ,T. Ballinger: auditors, Messrs. AY. J. Rowe and F. W. Boyd. During the evening long-service medals w_ere. presented to Cantnin J. AVright and Lieutenants T. Ballinger and A. Asher, to mark their completion of 20 years' service.

A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the superintendent of the Fire Briaado and his officers for their unfailing courtesy and co-operation.

A resolution of sympathy was passed with Lieutenant J. Doyle who. was unalile to be present on account of his recent accident.
