MAIMED SOLDIERS IN SWIMMING RACE
Handicapped by the loss of either a leg or an arm—one man having lost both his less—twenty-three maimed soldiers, patients at the Royal Pavilion Hospital, faced Maior-Genera! ir- Samuel Hickgon, starter nrnl judge, in a swimming race from the head of the Palace Pier, Brighton, to the shore.
With one exception nil tho men finished the course—a third of a mile. Private J. Pitlendrigh, Rifle Brigade, who hns lost both legs, was anions those who finished, and ho received a special prize. Tne competitors had beep trained by "Professor" Hurst, of pantomime-cat tame, and the event aroused extraordinary interest, a great crowd assembling and cheering the men.
