EXPANSION LEAGUE
CONFERENCE ,\V PALMERSTON NORTH IN SHOW WEEK.
Brief reference was made at the meeting oi' tho Council of the Wellington Central Chamber of Commerce yesterday to tho newly-formed Expansion League. The president (Mr. C. Al. Luke) alluded to tho hearty manner in which the league was being taken up and the. encouragement he had received on all sides in his endeavour to forward the interests of the province. _ There had been two meetings since their last council meeting, but ho asked for ,an extension of time with which to bring down . a report. Jlr. A. L. Hunt referred to the manner in which tho Press had taken up the matter, and also alluded to an article on tlie subject by .Mr. Stewart "\Yilfioii, who had inadvertently omitted to mention Jlr. Luke's name as. tho originator here of the league idea. Mr. J. Bardie Shaw stated that the objects of the league had been placed .before the Wellington Industrial Association, which had approved of them with marked enthusiasm. Tho president mentioned that it was their intention to ask the papers for moro assistance. Mr. Hunt moved that local bodies be communicated with in view of holding a conference on the subject at Palmerston North during show week. He pointed out that the whole of the province was alwavs splendidly represented at the show, and it would be a first-class opportunity for discussing the affairs of the league. The motion was passed. On the motion of Mf. Hunt it was decided that the president, the secretary (Mr. A. J. Petherick), and any members of the council who could get away should attend the conference on behalf of tho chamber.
