(Rec. October 19, 5.5 p.m.) London, October 18. Mr. M'Cuirdy, M.P. (representing the Food Department), addressing the Pood Conference, said that the Government hod been strenuously attacking tho hiili prices. During the few weeks since tho Profiteering Act was passed 1600 local tribunals had lieen established, 1350 'prosecutions had l»en brought forward. resulting in 1320 convictions, and fines amounting to ,£7ofio imposed. Several important retail organisations, including grocers and drapers, wore voluntarily devefopinjr schemes whereby prices would lie reduced and the profiteer elimi-nated.—Ans.-N./j. Cable Assn.
