ENTERTAINMENT IN CANAL ZONE.
The confcrenco of the N.Z.R.S.A, on Saturday di-jcussetl tho following remit from Christchurch," moved by -Mr. W. E." I.eadley: "That Headquarters should take immediate • action with a view to presenting suitablo illuminated addresses to the citizens of Colon and Panama, as a small token of the esteem and appreciation of returned soldiers throughout New Zealand for the hospitality shown to them during their stay in that district." The mover said that he eould 'not find words to adequately express his appreciation for the hospitality shown "our boys" as they passed through tho Canal Zone. By presenting suitable illuminated addresses it would be a method of showing their appreciation in a practical way, A retired gentleman of Christchurch who had contemplated touring the United States was prepared to take the addresses to Panama and present them. Mr. G. Mitchell (Wellington) seconded the motion and paid a. glowing tribute to the hospitality of the residents in the Cnnnl Zone. Mr. E. F. Andiws (Auckland) suggested that Albany might be included in the remit. Mr. Leadlev: A'hnny has alreadv been thanked t>v the Prime Minister of New Zealand. T would like to include Albany because I had a glorious time there. (Laughter.) Mr. V.'Totter (~nd) omvsod the motion, and said that wherever New Zenlanders went thev were well received, and he did not think that the peo'ple who entertained them wanted illuminated addresses. A general discussion followed, after which the motion was put to the meeting and lost.
