The Arawa Tribe gave a reception to General liu.-sell, Lady Russell, and Miss Huesell at Ohinemutu 011 Saturday' atturnoon, with the customary songs,' a war dance, and a poi dance. The chiefs expressed especial appreciation of General Busseli'a consideration for 'the Maoris at the front. Ho was presented with a valuable feather mat.—Press Assn.
Mr. W.' H. Ashbolt has been appointed Agent-General for Tasmania in succession to Sir John M'Coll—Press Assn.
Mr. J. P. Kenny, secretary to the Napier Harbour Board, is at present on a visit to Wellington.
On the occasion of, Mr. William S. M'Gregor leaving Messrs. Briscoe and Co., Ltd., .to tako up ft position with Messrs. J. J. Nivon and Co., Nnpter, Mr. Jlnrloy, on account of the employees, presented l|im with a gold watch ana leather wallet, both suitably inscribed. In making the presentation, Mr. Morley wished Mr. M'Gregor every ."uceess in his neiv position, and congratulated him on h'fi advancement. Mr. M'Gregor thanked nil present for (heir kind wishes.
Mr. S. 'I l '. Sherwood, secretary of the Nelson Harbour Board, is in Wellington for a few days.
