Headers of, "Sylvia Scarlett", and "Sylvia and MiciiaeC," and those who know Mr, Comptoii Mackenzie's earlier books, "Tho Passionate Elopement," "Carnival," and "Sinister Street," will be interested to learn that the author's forthcoming now story, "Poor Relations," is in tho naturo .of a new departure, being a comedy of country house life. Mackenzie lives at tho beautiful Italian island of Capri, so bolovod of artists. During the war he did secret service work in Rumania and Greece, and was stationed for a timo at Mudros. I-Ie is said, however, to contenipfato an early return to his old homo in Cornwall, whence ho got some of tho local colour of "The Wooden Ilorse," "Manalick at Forty," and "Fortitude," and those grim final chapters of "Carnival." He lived for ii time in ft Westminster slum neighbourhood which figures prominently in the final section of his "Sinister Street."

In addition to "The Old Madhouse," Which lacked but one chanter when its author, tho Jale William* Do Morgan, died, and which, completed by his widow (herself recently deceased), has now been published by Heinomann. 'Mr. De Morgan left, it seems, two other novels. "The Old Man's Youth" and "Tho Young Alan's Old Age." 111 both r. considerable portion was left unwrittc'h, but notes for both of them wero and M.rs.
