A deputation, which included the Mayor, the sccretar yof the local branch of the Australian Workers' Union, and the president of the Industrial Council, told Mr. Carey (the Director) that unless ho agreed to act on the resolution passed b,v the meeting of citizens, that: "Having tried the system of administration of the Northern Territory by an Advisory Council, and found it' abortive, we now demand the appointment of a council with executive powers," the people were determined to devise means to bring about the desired effect, but did not desire to use force. Other statements were that it would he absolutely criminal to allow.Mr. Carey and his colleagues to remain in charge, and that their refusal to resign would precipitate one of the biggest revolutions Australian hnd seen. A demand was made ihat the three officials leave without consulting the Minister, Eventually, after declaring that they would not be coerced, Mr. Carey (D'rcclor of the Territory), Mr. Evans (Government and Judge Bevan agreed to iidvi?? the Minister that-they were resigning e.nd departing by tl'° next steamer, lt.nder nroniise that they would receive reasonable assistance from tho people.—Press Assn. Glynn, Minister for TTome and Territorial Affairs, stated in the House of Rem-esentatives that adequate steps were being taken to preserve order in the Northern Ten'itor.v.
