The fifth annual general meeting, of the Dom.nion Estate.Agents' and Land Auctioneers'. Association of New' Zealand w.is held on Wednesday. .'""\ere was a fu.ls attendance of officers a;;a.'delegates, representing the Auckland, ' W.iikato, Taranalti, Wellington, "Canteirtjury, and Otago districts. The principal matters dealt with, in addition to the report and lialance-Sheet. were; The amendment of the Land Agents Act; one uniform tariff for the Dominion,; discretionary power of mag'strabes granting licenses; abolition of citizens' certificates of character and "s(ibjtitu,tioft"of police reports; prevention"of undesirable persons obtaining-licenses; and unlicensed agents dealing with land. ' ■ During the. morning the'meeting waited on the Minister of Internal Affaire, with reference to t.ho reintroduct'oii of the amending Bill, and drew his attention particularly to tho need for an improved interpretation of lnnd' the liecfesity l'or preventing unlicensed peoplo dealing with land on commission; rejection by magistrates of applications for licenses for undesirable persons; an equitable disposal of the' bond money oh default of agent; inequitable working-of the present provision regarding written authorities for sale of land, etc; In reply, tho Minister said ho was pleased to receive the deputation; but he did not think thero was any prospect 'of an amending Bill.being brought down tlr's Rcpsion. He would later on-give the. views put forward careful consideration, and would try to remedy some of the matters complained of, especially those referring to undesirable persons being licensed, no power to cancel a license for general-breaches of the laiv, and would bring before Hie Minister of Just-'co the question of the discretionary power of magistrates to refuso licenses where considered necessary.
