AX AMALGAMATION EAPPROCHE- . MENT. At tlie meeting of the City Council last evening a letter from the Mjramar Borough Council'on the question of amalgamation asked for information ou the following points:— (1) Tramways—The boroueh tramways cost the district jC.IG.OOI), which includes the cost, of the Seatoun tunnel, J>u.t not any part of the cost of necessary mad vorks, In Inking over the tramways will lh.e citv take over the loan? (1) Water Supply and Drainago.— Would the c'.ty take over the loans in respect of'these ivories, and what rates would bo levied for these services? (3) , Street. Improvements.—Loans Amounting'to -£2n,?10 are at present a charge on the district. Would tho loans or any portion of them be taken over, ?ee : ng' that the district would bo paying city rates? (4) Power Station.—The power supply loan is a charge of about -£(!"5 per annum; the station is now used as a council office. The building would become the pronprty of tire city. To_ what extent would tho district bo relieved of tho charge? Tlie letter added a question whether in the event of the Citv Council favourably considering the principle of amalgamation on the lines outlined, would the council be prepared to set up a committee to meet n committee from the Miramnr bndv?
On the mot'on of th« Mayor the Mfer was referred to the Finance Committee for consideration.
