MONTHLY MEETING. . 'By Telegraph— Special Correspondent. Matterton, October 11. The monthly nicet.ns of the Mastcrton County Council was held to-day, Councillor W. J. Welch presiding. There were also present: Councillors It. Wilton, W. J. Armstrong; A. J. Percy, D. M'Lachlan. and H. Toogood. Mr. J. M'Gregor headed n deputation asking that certain portions of the Masterton County, namely, part of the property belonging 1 to Messrs. Nitz Bros., should be transferred to the Wa/rarnpa South County, which at present contained the main portion of the property. Counei'.lor Welch maintained that the amount of rates involved, £2i 95., pins a special rate of is. 7d., was small, but tho deputation pointed out that the matter concorned them beyond tho question of rate's. It was resolved by tho council to go into tho matter and give tho result of their deliberations. Another deputation, headixl by Mr. ,T. C. E'wington, wajte;l on the council in connection with "the merg'ng of Lansdowne with the Mnsterton borough. The matter bad resolved itself into a question of what the council should contribute towards the upkeep of bridges at the entrance to the part affected. After tho deputation hnd stated their views, no alteration was rriade to the decision recently arrived at by the council, that it contribute, one-eighth of the cost for a period covering five years. Pernugjion was granted Messrs. Reaton. Slndden, and P-avitt for the formation of a .road on Mrs. Judd's property at Weingnwa.' -ito order that residences might be erected for the freezing, works employees. Tho Wairarana Automobile Association wrote ofiking for permission to erect signposts on the Bideford Hoad; Tho request was granted subject to tho usual conditions. Messrs. Reaton, Rladden, and Par'tt wero appointed consulting engineers to the council, and were instructed to report on the state of the Tauoru bridge. The C"stlepoint County Council remitti'd the first instalment towards tho cost of the Wnintrawa bridge. Mr. G'. Tt.-Sykes, M.P., wroto notifying tho council that ho proposed to approach the Government on the limitations of the speed of motor traffic.
