BRITAIN'S FIGHTING FORCES
DRASTIC RETRENCHMENT. (Rec. Octobor 13, 7.55 p.m.) London, October 13. Tho "Daily Express" states that tho Cabinet Retrenchment Committee has decided upon a drastic cutting down of the fighting forces. The Army must not cost more than .£75,000,000, the Navy ,£60,000,000, and tho Air Force .£25,000,000 por annum.—Aus.-N.Z. Cablo Assn. (Roc. October 13, 9.35 p.m.) >. London, October 13. It is stated that Mr. Lloyd George was instrumental in ordering tho reduction of tho Army expenditure to J!75,000,c00. This will permit of a permanent Army of 100,000. The Air Force will be allowed .£65,000,000 at present (on the understanding that this amount shall bo reduced to JC25.000.000 in 1920).-United Service.
