A representative meeting of settlers.at Carterton to-day decided to .support tlm candidature at the general election of Mr. A. D. M'Leod, of "Mangapari," Martinborough, for the Wairarapa seat in the Deform interests. Xlr. M'Leod. who has been chairman of the Featherston County - Council for the nast 17 years, has consented to nomination. ' Ml?. POOLE RETIRES. Mr. 0. K. Poole (Auckland WesO has definitely announced that lie will not. offer lifihself for /e-clection at the coin, intf elections. Mr. A. J. Entrican, DepurvMayor of Auckland, will contest the seat in tlio Liberal interest, the othev candidates being Mr. C. F. Bennett (Reform), and Mr. J. Savau'c (Labour).. H. .Poole having announced his decision not to again contest the Auckland West seat for private reasons, Mr. A. J. Entrican; a leading merchant, and Deputy-Mayor of Auckland, will stand for the seat as a Progressive Liberal, « Dunedin, October 13. Mr. A. Ashwortli, fruitgrower, of Alexandra, is announced as a candidate for the AVakatipu seat in the Liberal-Labour interest. Mr, George Barclay, of Little liivcr, will be the official candidate for Ellesmere in the Liberal interest. Mr. Barclay, who is a farmer, has been connected for many years with the various local bodies in "the district.
