Dr. 11. W. Clenry, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, who has been in illhealth for some time, has again entered tho Matei' M'sericordiae Hospital, Morwt Eden, on the advice of his incdic«l advisers. Captain Albert Jacka, the first Australian to the Victoria Cross, and the recipient of many additional distinctions for gallantry, is returning to Australia on the r.f. Euripides. He is expected to reach Melbourne nbout Octobor 23. Captain, T. Farr, D.5.0., M.0., K.N.Z.A., has been appointed artillery instructor at tho Goner.il Headquarters School, Trenthain. Before, leaving New Zealand with the Main jiody, Captain Farr was a non-commissioned officer in the Royal New Zealand Artillery. Ho received a commission while at the front, a*nd for his services was awarded tho D.S.O. and the Military Cross. Dr. Little, of Timaru, who as had Army experience—retiring with, the ranker lieutenant-colonol—has Lcen appointi"l medical officer for the Blackball ,and Papnroa mining districts, in succession to Dr. Telford, who has accepted a Government position. The Rev. P. N. Knight, of the Durham Street Methodist Church. Christchurch, has received a unanimous call to the Pitt Street Church, Auckland. Mr. Knight has accepted the call, and will leave for Auckland lit the end of next March. Tho Rev. \V. Ready, of Kaiapoi, has accepted an invitation to succeed the Rev. Knight at Durham Street, Both these calls are subject to tho approval of the next Methodist Conference, to be held in March. Miss Finlayson, Messrs. H. R. Fisher, A. C. Blake, and 11. D. Pritchard liave boen appointed delegates to represent the Wellington branch of the Teachers' Institute at the annual conference of "the New Zealand body in January next. Dr. Guy 11. Schulefiekl, M.8.E., who has beeu acting as correspondent for New Zealand papers in London for eleven years past, is returning to New Zealand to take up journalism again here.

Colonel J. W. Hutciien, C.M.G., C.8.E., who was for a considerable time Staff Paymaster of the N.Z.E.F., and is now on his way back to tin; Dominion, will, oa his return, lako up the appointment of oflicer-in-cliarge of War Kxpenses.

Ayson. one of tho new'yappointed judges of the Native l,and Court, is a son of Mr. L. 1". Aysoii. Chief Inspector of Fisheries. .1 udge Ayson was for twelve years a partner of the firm of Messr-s. Bunny and Ayson, of Wellington. For the past three and a half .veara .lie held the nosition of Judge of the Native Land Court of Ihe Cook Islands. His knowledge of Native customs was the subject of most favourable comment. While at Uarotongn 110 also acted as a Hl'gh Court Judge, and held the position of Depuly-Coiilinissloncr. .liuke Ayson is expected to arrive back at Wellington shortly.
