Mrs. Williams (Gisborne) is visiting Wellington. : The Y.W.C.A. will hold its annual meeting at Fowlds's Buildings, in Herbert Street, this evening. The report and balance-sheet will be received, and there will be an election of board members. After the business meeting Miss Florence Birch, who Ims been the general secretary in "Wellington for the Inst seven years, will, bo farewelled. The Mayor will be in the chair, and the Hon. J. G. W. Aitkcn will also Ixs present. Mrs. G. Doughty is visiting Auckland. [ Mrs..David Gillies (Auckland) is leaving shortly on n visit to England. Miss Eslelle lieere lies received word from Australia that two of her pupils have secured excellent engagements. Miss Doris Scott has left for a year's tour of. the East with Mr. Frederick Shipman and company as s:olo dancer. The Polish dancer and his wife, Monsieur and Mme. Kurvlo. and Charles Albert are r.lso in tho company. Mr. Thomas O'Carroll, who for the> Inst five years has been a keen and prominent pupil has been engaged l»yJ!jr. Hugh Macintosh, and is now dancing his Russian dances at the Tivoli, Sydney, partnered with Miss Bonnio Quintan. Mr. O'Carroll has taken the stage name of Jan Caryll. When in Melbourne last summer Kiss Beere saw Miss Quintan dancing with Charles Albert' in the revue "Bubly." and speaks highly of her dancing.. Slio is small, very vivacious,, and pretty, and altogether just what .she would have chosen for her old pupil. Miss Vera Peace is. the star artiste at the Tivoli. and Miss Goodie Eeeve. -daughter of Ada Eeeve, is also on. Tho death of Mis. C. M. Nelson, which occurred at her residence, Haveloelc Street; in her 73rd year, has (reports the "Herald"), deprived Auckjnnd of ono of its most highly respected and best-'.nown women citizens, and also of one ,'of its most devoted workers in the cause of humanity.' Mrs. Nelson, who was the widow of the Into Canon Nelson, was, before her marriage, Miss Georgina Sophia Coates, daughter of the late Mr. James Coates, who came to this country in 18J-1 as private secretary to Captnin Hobson, first Governor of New Zealand. Tho deceased bjdy was one of the founders of the' Society for -the Prevention of Cruelty to Animnls, of the original Parjiell Orphans' Home, and of the Plnnkct Society. Mrs. Martin (Gisborne) and Mr. G. Moore (G'nrtertou) are spending a few days in Pctone. A private subscription dance in aid of the Hinemoa. and Tutanekai stalls in connection with St. Joseph's parish .bazaar was held in the Alexander Hall on Saturday evening. Many dancers and 'ivcll-wishers were present, and the danco was thoroughly successful in every way. The decorations wero carried out ill blue and gold, tho.wnlls being festooned with drapery of these two colours, whilo overhead were coloured streamers and quantities of flags, The supper tables were arranged with lilies and anemones, and the supper, all home-made, had been provided by Miss Keating. A yery quiet wedding was celebrated at . the Church of the Good Shepherd, Phillipstown, Christchurch, on Wednesday afternoon last, the "bride and bridegroom being members of two old Dunedin families. Mr. Altwrt Vernon Fraer, fifth son of the Into Mr. aud Mrs. Finer, "Sandhurst," Kaiapoi, and' Miss Medina Ethel Sandilands, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs.. 11. Sandilands, of Queen's Drive, Musselburgh, Dunedin. Miss Sandilands was, till, recently, science mmtress at the ■ Epsom Girls' Grammar School, Auckland. The ceremony was performed by .the Eev, C. A. Frr.cr (brother "of the bridegroom), and Mrs. C. A. Fraer officiated at the organ. The bride was'given away by hi* father, and wan attended by Dr. Nora Hnnron. Mr. Hugh, Fraer' acted as best man; Only the immediate relatives of both families were present. Nurse Violet Naiah,- eldest daughter of Mrs..Naish, iliecarton, and the late Mr. E. G. Naish, Springston, who was recently successful ill passing her final examination at- the Christchurch Public Hospital, left on Thursday night by the Maheno for Sydney, er* route for Canton, China, as a medical missioner for the New Zealand Presbyterian Mission Board. A very attractive i'eature/'of the entertainment which Miss Butler is arranging for Thursday and Friday eveniugs next is the Dutch frieze, in which several new ideas Imvo been worked otlt. The frieze is in three sections, the lirst representing a nursery eceno with verses written by Mrs. Oh.itiield, and introducing dances arranged by Miss Dorothy Saunders. The next is a Wedgwood frieze, picturing the charming figures with their blue background that so .many are familiar with, all their characteristic poses being reproduced, and the third an Egyptian frieze with background and costumes in keeping, z An additional attraction will be the Egyptian Jances, which will be given in this conn.Mfioii. Among the singers who will contribute to the programr;s will be Mii-s Fernandez. Mr. Syine is now tlia stage manager' in place of Mr. Thco 't'reziso, whose engagements do not allow him lo tarry on the work. There is a good for seals at the Bristol, and the entertainment promises to be largely attended.
