Sir William Fraser, minister of Public Works, will not bo it candidate for any seat at the "coming general election. In announcing his intention to the electors of Wakatipu, lie says: "For over fifty years 1 liave taken an active part in the public life of the Dominion. I lmve for nearly twenty-six years continuously rc'preseutcd one constituency in Parliament and have served as- a Minister of the Crown foji seven years, so I think 1 may fairly claim now that I mil entitled to a litllo rest." It was at the general election of 1593 that Sir William Fraser became member tor Wakatipu in the House of Representative.?. He has held the seat in successive Parliaments since that time, Ho became Minister of Public Works when the licform Government was formed in 1012. Jle will retain the portfolio until his successor is appointed, probably after the general election. Mr. Charles Alfred St. (ieorge Hickson, late Commissioner of Stamps, died hero oa Friday night, .iged seventy-five, states a Press Association telegram from Kotorua. 'l'he late Mr. Hickson was, until his retirement from the Public Service some years ago. Secretary for Stamps at Wellington, in which position he was recognised as an officer of outstanding ability. In his earlier days he was for a considerable period a noted tenor Koloist in the choir of St. Paul's proCathedral, and a prominent member of various musical societies, lie was an enthusiastic bowler alid yachtsman, and a notable amateur billiard player. The funeral of the lato Mr. Charles Hill, sen., of "To Hiwi," Island Bay, took place on Saturday, the interment taking place at iho Karori Cemetery. Messrs. Charles, E. J., and W. Hill, sons of the deceased, were the chief mourners, There was n large number present to show the last mark of respect to the deceased. Mr. J. R. Palmer (Town Clerk) represented the Mayor and Councillor C. I!. Norwood the City Council. Members of the To Hiwi Bowling Club acted.as pall-bearers, and inost of the other bowling clubs of Wellington lity and suburbs were represented. The service lit tile graveside was conducted by the Rev. Dr. Penfold. Dr. Frederick de Lisle, a native of Guernsey, and a resident in the Hastings and Napier districts for <0 years, died on Saturday morning, aged 73. Ho held the positions of surgeon at the Napier Hospitall Health OAicer in Hawke's J3ay and for the Napier borough/ He served on the Napier Borough Council for two years.—Press Assn. Mr. Gregor M'Gregor, of Wangnnui, has received ii6ws that his son, Lieutenant George M'Gregor, and Mrs. M'Gregor are returning to New Zealand by the Riverina from Australia. x Mrs. M'Gregor went across to Australia to meet her husband. Mr. David Markham, merchandise buyer in the lato Munitions and Supplies Department, has been appointed New Zealand manager for the Caravel Company, New York. He is leaving the Government service shortly to take up his new appointment.
