PROFITEERING HUNT

U.S.A. IN THE FIELD. Last night's meeting of the Wellington Returned .Soldiers' Association gave some, attention to the matter of profiteering. Mr. J. Kenny moved that the Returned Soldiers' Association recommend to the Government that the ■ Bill dealing with profiteering should make provision for persons convicted of the offence being dealt with in a similar manner to conscientious objectors and u;itt militarists, i.e., by imprisonment and. loss of civil rights. Mr. .T. White seconded the motion.,;, Mr. It. Badger said Mr. Kenny was to bt congratulated on being a good "bracketist"—ho had successfully bracketed profiteers and conscientious objectors. (Applause.) During the course of the discussion, one speaker suggested that it was a good thing to bracket conscientious objectors and profiteers—"they should bo put in their class ns thoy wero both traitors to their country." The motion was carried, and at 1 lie suggestion of Mr. J. M'Kciizie the fallowing words were added:—"And that this meetiitg of the W.R.S.A., in denouncing all kinds of profiteering - whether in land or commodities—calls upon the Govornment to devise means whereby all profiteers shall be compelled to pay by levies upon war profits all the needs of the soldiers in respect of allowances, pensions, and gratuities."
