RENT OF BATHING SHEDS
Mr. J B. Pinlay, of Day's Bay, representing the owners of bathing sheds on tho beach at Day's Bay, waited on the Uty Councils Reserves Committee yesterday to protest against the charge of £1 per annum proposed to be mado by tho coifncil for tho sheds they privately owned on tho beach. Ho pointed out that tho residents were spending a good deal of money in beautifying their places, and they were being met with charges they never had to pay before. For Instanco, they now had to pay Is. a load for gravel (other than cartage) which thoy did not have to pay before tho council took over the 'bay, and they wero asked to pay .£1 a year for the shed,, whereas the Ferry Company used to' charge 2s. Gd. for a key or 10s. a year for ono shed. Ho also pointed out that they only had to move tho sheds back a fow feet and they would bo on the County Council's road resorve, and so bo beyond tho control of the City Council. He. suggested that tho chargo should be 10s. a year, dating from October 1. Tho chairman of the committee (Councillor G. Frost) said that Mr. Finla/s representations would be duly considered by tho committee. .
