FEDERAL BUDGET

Melbourne, October 8. In the Federal ilouao of Representatives Mr. Poynton'delivered the Federal Budget. He said that the revenue for the past, year amounted to .£44,708,408, and 1 he-expenditure to ,£15,135,870. As an accumulated surplus of .£3,915,820 had been brought forward from the previous year, the present year ended with an accumulated surplus of .£3,508,412. Pavment from revenue on,account of the war during the year was .£13,527,703. Special taxesi to meet this expenditure yielded .£30,377,349. The total war expenditure to date was .£311,452,248, of which ■£45.958,014 was expenditure out of revenue, leaving ,£205,493,784 as a- charge to , tho War Loan Account. Mr. Poynton estimated that the revenue for the current year would total. .£■16.346,635. which, with the accumulated eurplns brought forward, would mako a total of .£49,915,047. Against this he estimated the expenditure of ,£49,570,203. No new taxation is foreshadowed.—Press Assn.
