ALLEGED ASSAULT AND ROBBERY
OVER JIOO INVOLVED. An old man named Peter M'Mahon, age/-. , 74 years, was. on September 2G, a - snulted and robbed of ,£l4l. • On Tuesday last a Maori named Jack Tanihnnga was arrested on the charge. Detective-Sergeant Rawlo stated that it was aliened that the acensed and some others mv\ M'Mahcn in an hotel, and had spvernl drinks. They suggested that M'Msvhon should accompany them to Lvall Bay, antf have a party. This was agreed to, and they cnuglit a tram. When at the top of Constable Street 0116 of the party said that they were at Lyall Bay, and they all alighted. They proceeded about one hundred yards alon? tho road, and it was alleged that they then assaulted M'Mahon and robbed' him of XUI. Tim- accused appeared before Mr. W. (i. Biddcll, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, and was remanded till October 15. Bail ■was allowed in the sum of .£l5O, and ono surety of .£l5O.
