■ WATERSIDE WORKERS TO TAKE ■; : BALLOT. ', At tlieir slop-work meeting yesterday the Wellington Waterside Workers' Union discussed two important proposals dealing', with the control of the work of londimr and unloading vessels. The proposals nro as under:— ■ . "(1) That in ports where there is no local branch of the shipping company concerned; or where the company agrees that the work may bo done by tho unions and federation, the union shall t appoint a foreman to engage labour, and ' n "foreman or foremen to superintend work of loaoing, discharging, or any other work which may be undertaken. The basis of this work shall.bo that the men shall be paid the current hourly rate of wages according to tho class of work they are engaged on, and the federation aud unions affiliated shall receive a iperccntago bonus- on the wages paid to the men Working the vessel. Such ;percentage.bonusto bo set aside in a trust fund for the collective benefit of ticaffiliated membership, and shall' Im' used as "the aircctbrs appointed by the unions and federation -'■■■ shall from time, 'to timo': decide.'. :.;■'.
