RUGBY UNION

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING. Tho Management Committee of tho Wellington Rueby Union met;last evening, Mr.. W. Hornig presiding. There were also present Messrs. J. N. Millard, E. Perry, G. Jackson, J. Lundon, W. W. Cook, W. Donovan, J. Prondeville, A. J. Griffiths, E. Ward, and T. H. Jones (hon. secretary). The Tramway Club was granted the use of .Athletic Pork on Thursday, when a team from that club is to play a team representing the Taxi Club drivers. Tho difficulty of the committee in dealing with cases of alleged offences which' referees have neglected to report on was again mentioned. A case cropped up wherein a player was ordered off the field by a referee as it was alleged that he had deliberately struck another player. The player reported himself lust evening, but there was no report from tho referee. The opinion was expressed that the player onght to be heard as.a matter of convenience, but some members objected to this course ns they contended that the player had no case to answer. Until the receipt of the. referee's .report, it -was nrgued, the union could not take any action.- Two other cases ■ were mentioned Therein players had been ordered off the field, but tho union was unable to take action owing to the non-receipt of the refer-so's report of the occurrence. In this inr.tanco the player would not avail himself of the opportunity to make a statement, and further cowdderalion wis dropped till tho arrival of the referee's report. Tho secretary announced "o far the total gate receipts at the Pctone ground amounted to £W) JOs., of which amount tho union received ,£O3 7s. 3d., plus JJI.I ss. for wngog for gatemen. The "gate" realised at the WnTicanniWMlimrton match amounted to .£2G!) 16». and expenses amounted to 4?85 125., leaving a net gale of .£lB4 Is.
