EARLY SETTLERS FORGATHER
"HAPPY-GO-LUCKY" EVENING. < Over 100 members of the Early Settlers' Aflsociation assembled nt Dustin's ltooms, Cuba Street, last evening, when a couple of happy hours were spent, in recounting reminiscences of old limes in Wellington. The proceedings wero entirely informal, it being enjoined that they should, be of a "happy-go-lucky" character. Theio were no set speeches, but the evening was brightened with songs and recitations contributed by Hiss Butler, Slesdumes Cooper, and Finch, and Sir. Finch. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. John Smith (who has not been well lately) and It. B. Hnybittle. Sir. Smith celebrated his BdUi b rtlulny last Saturday, and it was decided to forward bim a letter of congratulation and to express the hope that lie would he able to attend the next gathering. Mr. Smith has taken a great, interest in the affairs of the association, and he was largely infttrumental in making it such a successful organisation. Although in his gfith ! year, Sir. Hnybittle was reported to be 1 "still going strong," and the settlers agreed to send him their kind remembrances and continued good wishes.
