GRATUITIES FOR SEAMEN
Sir,—Mr. Massey mentioned in the House what ho will do for the seamen of the mercantile marine that wero on transport work during the war. He said they received a special war bonus. That is so, but not all tho seamen got the bonus. The apprentices on the transports got nothing, not even pay. They earned a gratuity, I am sure, if anyone did. There never was a. finer lot of young men left Now Zealand than the apprentice cadets on tho Aparima,/and more than the half of them lost their lives for tho Empire's cause. No reward,'no pay, or special war bonus, not even thanks for them. Just think over that, Mr. Massey, when you are making up your mind what you will do for u6.—l am, etc., 3 SEAMAN.
