The New York "Times" Washington correspondent states that tho United States Council of National Defence, in a statement, says that the high cost of living is duo to failure to ijtilise to tlio full the nation's productive powers since the armistice, unavoidable war waste, the increase of money credits, and considerable intentional and unintentional profiteering. The-remedies are the production of more necessities, the stamping out of profiteering, and a better method of,distribution and marketing—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
