PROPOSALS FOR-STATE AID. t The Pishing Industry Promotion Bill introduced last night aims at empowering < •the Minister of Finance to borrow at lus discretion sums of money not exceeding' <625,000 in any financial year for the as- * sistanco of tho industry, which is defined as including sea fishing, fresh water fish. iiig, the cool storage of fish, its preservation 'by.canning or otherwise, mid any other industry or business declared by the Governor-General-in-Couneil' to 1)0 ancillary to'the flailing industry. Loans not exceeding in any one case .1:5000 may' bo granted by the Minister of Marine out of the money so raiJcd for any of the : purposes prescribed by llie Bill. • ' To assist-in the administration of the . measure, the Governor-General-iii-Council may appoint an advisory board of thrc-e persons, to lie known as ''Fishing Industry Promotion Bbnril:l," which is to have such advisory or consultative powers ns may be conferred upon it by the authority* of the Bill when enacted, while its. particular duty shall be lo investigateand report uiion nil "applications for loans' as authorised by tlio preceding clauses « the measure.
