FLOODS IN EAST COAST DISTRICTS. By Telegraph—Press .• ssociation. ' Opotiki, October G. _. The storm which commenced oil Friday ' night continued yesterdliy. At 3 p.m. the wind suddenly changed to the north-east, and the rain continued, with a strong gale. The Waioeka and Otnrn Kivers both overflowed their banks last night, and flooded tho low-lying areas Nr. loss of stock has been reported so far. The rain ceased this morning. . It 'is not likely the rivers will rise tiny higher. The steamer Wniolahi sailed' shortly after noon. Slip 'called at Oliiwa, em left the latter port at 4 p.m., running into a head wind and a very rough sefi. Later. Tho Waiotahi River is flooded. Motorcars left Opotiki this morning with mails and passengers, but returned owing to low, section of Toad on the bank of the Waiotahi, about seven miles out from town being under three to four feet of water. The gale uprooted \ number of trees and damaged orchards
