KHANDALLAH CLT|B. ; The Kha.ndallah Bowling Club opened 'its season on Saturday in the presence of a large. assemblage of radios,' club -members, and' visiting players.' '•■ In-' a 1 short speeoh, the president (Mr. H. M. Nalaer) referred, to the brighter auspices under which piny was being commenced, as compared with the'conditions in war time, and mentioned that the prospects of the club were, improving,- ami members were 'ant'c'ipatiiig an enjoyable 'Ma--son'-s-plap ;rThovftt3,fc; jack 'andvbotfl . of the season were then played by Mrs. Nalder. Some "koorily-coritostcd games, followed, and generally the opening was regarded as a highly-successfik one. Fourteen new members have already been enrolled. . /

The president, Mr. J. A. Doherly, in' his.'oppning speech, .referred' to tho bright prospects for tho season; they had attained a membership of 9! (later in flic day "irijcreased to • 97); their, finances were in a most satisfactory state; they had a very line board.of directors; tho'r green, was gradually approaching perfection, and amongst the.members there was a very, excellent spirit of good-feeling and comradeship which wns -'unexcelled in. any . ehib in- Now Zealand. Reference-was also -made to the very valuable assistance, rendered! by, members r |x>th ..financially and by labourious service, towards tho formation of the . extra, green,. now imdoi construction; also to the indefatigable and,invaluable services of Messrs. •B. G. Gannaw'ay and .T.i'Gray.. .Tliose two gentlemen .had year by year piled up a;'debt of gratitude against the club, which could never be repaid. Mr. Gray, as green superintendent, practically lived on the green, and had.worked wonders in its deevtopment. ; At the president's suggestion members gave Mr.'Gray "three ■ hearty'cheers, with musicalhonours. — : After welcoming the ladies (of; whom there was'.a large, number -present), including the -Mayoress, Mrs. Luke; "and. ,3iew members, including.the..Mayor, Mr. J. P. Luke, the first "kitty" .was thrown, ■and .play coinmcmcod, being indulged.'in. by a large number of members and visitors. . , .* ;
During tho afternoon, an „ orchestra, .under the baton; of Mr. Frank Thomas, ""discoursed, most : enjoyabie: iiiiusic," and the guests were- most hospitably entertained at afternoon tea by Mrs.-" Doherly.
' : PETONE CLUB. ■ The Petone Bowling Club green'was ofli- . cially.opened on Saturday.,. There was a : Tecord attendance and a very pleasant afternoon .was spent. Mr. G.D. M'Ewen, '. the. president of the. club, in his opening speech welcoming all those present, made . reference to the New Zealhndsoldiers who , had fought so bravely for victory. Now 1 , that tho war. was over lie. predicted that ' members would take more interest in bowling and have a pleasant and..successful season. Twenty-one new members 'had joined the club recently. .Mr. M'Ewen also. made, feeling 'reference to i tho death of two of the oldest and'most Tespected members"of the club, vt/.., Dr. i Ross 'and Mr. J.--G. A. Castle.- During the afternoon a string band rendered musical items. (Mrs. M'Ewen, the wife j of the president, provided "an' excellent , " tea.
