CONDITIONS REVIEWED, i The fruit inspectors of the Horticulture Division of tho Department of Agriculture report as follows on the conditions of locally-grown fruit and vegetables in' shops mid auction rooms, and the market conditons for the month of September, 1919:— .. Auckland.—Business in ltical fruit has been , brisk throughout tho month, and for varieties available there has been keen .competition. Tho condition and quality of apples and pears from tha cool stores has improved considerably. No doubt thoso that were inferior' in quality have been disposed of first. Apples—A fairly, steady supply has come forward.' Tho Delicious, exceptionally choice, 23in. grade, realised the highest price, at 235., whilst tho best Stunners reached, 16s. Pears—These have not been so. plentiful. Winter Cole has been tho favourite. P. Barry and Beurre Eastor have kept in the best condition. Poorman Orange—Well-grown, clean samples have been marketed, and the price has remained • firm: lemons—These have continued to be plentiful and of. good quality! Prices have declined. Tomatoes. tree tomatoes, and* passions are all verv scarcc, and'only an occasional small line is' marketed. Strawberries—A few boxes have come in during the la.it week, but' it is too early yet for the quality to bo choice. Good quality potato samples are scarce, itind prices are firm. Onions aro scarce and of highpricc. Vegetables aro only in- medium: supply- Root varieties are scarce, and are bringing high prices. Dunedin —First-class lines of dessert nnd cooking apples have been rather hard to secure on the -Dunedin markets during the month. No great quantity of vegetables is yet coming forward.
