Some of them state that has been no improvement in their Friday's takings, while tho amount received on Saturdays, is less than half yihat it was before the change. Sn strong is the feeling of shopkeepers on the matter that it is likely that a determined effort will be made to revert to Wednesday as the-weekly half-holiday, as soon as an opportunity to make the change arises. ._, Arrangements' for the purchase of 20 acres of land on which to erect an agricultural'- and technical college in Feilding are now practically complete. Donations have been coining in. freely, and it is likely that the. required amount to complete the purchase will soon bo forthcoming. The Government has allocated a small sum for the erection of the necessary buildings, and the plans are in course of preparation, Thc-truant'officer "was very much'in evidence, in Palnierston North on Friday, when the Williamson Opera Company gave a matinee, at .which it urndiiccd the pantomime "Goody Two Shoes." He warned quite a number of children that if they left school lief ore j closing time to attend the pantomime] that they would be treated as absentees. 'Hearing of this, the mann.ger of the company made soecinl .nirahgenients for these young folk to attend the evening performance!' , The returns for the Mn."islrptp's Court f«r the nuarter Just ended, show that during that period.
