Private Malcolm Nicol M'Cready, of. the Ninth New Zealand Reinforcements, on whoso behalf it was stated that, having broken both his elbows while on military servico, he was shamefully neglected bv officials of the Defence Department, oontends that lie was not given a fair opportunity of conducting his. ease. He alleges he was summoned to report at Whangarei for'-inquiry at short notice, and that all the witnesses were selected ,bv (lie Government, whilo lie was not invited to coll any.or given an opportunity of doing go. He asserts lie was refused the assistance of a. lawyer, although a member of the CoVirfc • was a lawyer. M'Cready states that the doctor's letter informed the camp captain that he must be hurried to Auckland for treatment, or lie would be disabled for life. M'Cready repeats that the injury which incapacitated him.was received at that camp. Tho secretary of tha R.S.A., after liearine M'.Crenfly's statements, has applied for a full report of the inquiry, with a view to ask'.ng for a rehearing.
