Major Gerald Lyon, son of the late Mr. \V. D. Lyan, of Wellington, returned to Wellington by the Cordoba on Wednesday after live years' active service. Mr. C. I'. l'owles was eleotcd a life juciiibor of the New Zealand Society of Accountants at the society's annual nieelin- on Wednesday. Mr. Powles has been prominent in accountancy circles lq I\ew Zealand for many years, but has now resigned from the society. ' Brigadier Bray, who has been in Australia for tho past month, has returned to Wellington, and has resumed the charge of the Salvation Army's social work. The lata Sir. Heeles was born in Yorkshire over 70 years ago, and was brought up to the soft goods trade. Before lie arrived in Wellington lie carried on a drapery business in Duncdin.
