SHEARERS AND SHED HANDS' AGREEMENT
i ' (To tho Editor.) ■ Sir,—ln practically every paper (indeluding tho "Farmers' Union Advocate, Which,should be better informed 011 the matter) • the comparison-, between prevlou3 rates of pay and present agreement is wrongly stated. The correct position 'is as follows;— • . Under the- arrived at m •- September of 1917 the rate for shearing tfas 225. 6d., plus a ss. war bonus, .mnkiing 275; Od. per 100 for sheep or lambs. ; The shed hands' rates were 2s. 6d., ■ plus 10s.- war bonus per iveek for presEers and wool Tollers; and .£2 per week, ; plus 10s. War bonus for all other shed haKds. The hourly .rates .were Is. .3d. f and l's. 2d., -plus a threepenny bonus. This gave a rate for tlie 1917-18 seasons of ' J!2 12s. 6d. and 10s. per week, or Is. . Gd. and. Is. sd. hourly. Cooks, i£3 per week, plus 10s. bonus. ' The present settlement for the 1919seasons is for. a weekly wnge of .£3 10s. for pressers and wool rollers, and ■£& ss. for other shed hands. Hourly "Tate, 2s. and Is. lfld.j cooks, i! 4 per up to and including 12 men, above -that.number by mutual arrangement, j Nothing;in the agreement to apply to ' permanent hands or members of employI er's family. ' No person to be deemed a [permanent hand nnlcss employe<V.at [least"'.'three' months prior to. starting of ('(shearing. , Youths under 18 years, I' 2 per jweek, or Is. 6d. per hour.
