VICTORY WAR LOAN
The Minister of Finance (Sk Janies Allen) stated yesterday, with refereuee to the Victory War Loan, that subscriptions must be made by October 9. Tho period had been extended to that date. After October 9 tho compulsory clauses of the Finance Act would bo put into operation. The rate of interest on debentures issued under, tho compulsory clauses would be 3 per cent., instead, of the 41 per cent, paid on normal sub. scriptioiu?. '~,., ; The Minister added that while the compulsory clauses applied particularly to persons who ought to make a large or moderately large subscription, thcro was need of the small subscriptions also. Very few people were unable to subscribe in some form-a way certificate could be bought for 135.-anu the treasury needed every shilling the public could afford to subscribo for the payment of (he war gratuity, as the nations gift-to the soldiers and other war charges,
