An interesting literary association line been broken bv the death at Cheltenham (England) of Sirs. Edith Alice Maitland. As a child 6ho was a great favourite of the Rev. C. L. Dodgson ("Lewis Carroll"), and, according to herself, the original "Alice" of his most famous book. Tho daughter of Canon Litton, of Gloucester, Bhe w«9 herself the writer of many hooks, a callable woman journalist and artist. Her most interesting volume was "Chi'ile k\i Memories of Lowis Carroll," which is now out of print, 'but tho bulk of which is incorporated in Mr. Collingwood's "Lifo and Letters of Lewis C»rlt'lL" At tho London fur sales recently silver fox realised as much as ,£350 a skin; Who fox, Xl5O a skin; fisher, .£7O; whito fox, ,£18; skunk, £2 10s.; and musquash, 15s. For purposes of comparison it may bo mentioned that tho records of the sales over the past half-century show that the avorago price obtained for fisher was a guinea a skin, for white fas la, Cd„ and for musquash id.
