THE ELECTIONS
Mr. F. T. Broom, Methodist home missionary at Te Kuiti, has been selected by a ballot as the official Labour candidate for the Taumarunui seat. There is some speculation upon tho question whether there may or may not be a triangular contest for the Dunedin North seat (says tho "Otago Daily Times"). At the present time Mr. A. Walker, M.P. the nominee of (ho Now Zealand Labour Party, is the only candidate definitely in the field. The name of Mr. J. J. Clark is persistently mentioned as that of a probable candidate. Mr. Clark is, however, confined to his house at the present time, and his intentions have not been made public. The name of Mr. David Larnach lias now been introduced as that of a probable candidate, but we liavo been asked to state that no authority has been given by him for the suggestion that he is likely to offer himself. Mr. Charles Cross, of Alfredton, has definitely announced his candidature for tho Masterton seat at the forthcoming elections as an Independent Moderate Labourite. , Mr. B. J. Cooko will contest the Wairau seat in tho interests of Labour. Mr H. M. Jones has announced lus intention of •contesting the Ashburton seat in opposition to the Hon. \\. JNpsworthy, M.P. He states that his policy will bo that of a Democratic Liberal. Efforts nro being made, says an exchange, to induce Mr. E. Phelan. secretary of the Auckland Timber Workers Union, to contest the Eotorua seat at the forthcoming general election in tho interests of Labour.
