The first test of parly strength ill tlio Seuato in connection with the Treaty, was made when Senator Lodge (Republican! moved the postponement till Tuesday of consideration of forty amendments proposing to eliminate the United .States from the different commissions set un under the Treaty. The motion was adopted by 43 votes to 10.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. (Rec. September 25, 11.30 p.m.) Now York, September 23.;. In at speecliNit Salt Lako City, President 'Wilson stated that tlio Foreign ■Relations Commitee's reservations would forco tho Treaty back to the Peace Conference. An amendment of Article X would nullify American participation in the League, and destroy the treaty. Anj re-opening of the Treaty would re-open tho entire question. According to diplomatic advices, Switzerland will defer consideration of tho League Covenant until the three principal Allied Powers have ratified the Treaty.
