At yesterday's meeting of tlie executive of the Wellington War Keiief Association mention was made of gratuities in their relation to -the payment ot relief to soldiers. .• • ■ • Mr. J. M'lntosh 'brought «i]i the question l>y observing that the Association eliould make a plain statemStit to tho effect" that men who abused the receipt of the gratuity need not apply to the association for relief. Mr. L. O. H. Tripp (chairman) said that tho policy indicated by Mr. M'lntosh was already followed by the association. /If the association thought that a man' had been ■ wasting money it did not pay him over more money, though it gave hiin such other assistance as he proved himself.to be in need of. . Mr. C. M. Luke: Tlw Advisory Board should announce a general policy on tho question. . Mr. Tript): Whatever we do, the gratuity has of" course to be taken'into consideration.
