\Mr. Alex. Macintosh yesterday tendered to the executive of the War Kelief Association his resignation from membership. Ho explained ihat he was proceeding to Australia, and was so compelled to sevor his connection with the committee. On the motion of the chair,mun (Mr. L. 0. 11. Tripp), the. committee recorded its thanks, to . Mr. Macintosh for the-great deal of \vork he had done, and further recorded its regret at his departure. Mr. Macintosh, siiid Ml'. Tripp, had worked very hard, without nnv limelight. Other members endorsed the statement.

Mr. T. B. Strong,' M.A.. Senior Inspector of Schools for -the AVanganui education district, has been appointed Oliief Inspector of Schools for New Zealand, with headquarters at Wellington.

Captain G. N. Taylor, who returned from active service last April, has been appointed adjutant' of the 12th (Nelson and Marlborough) Regiment, in succession to Lieutenant jr. "A. Stedman, who has jojned tho instructional staff at Tronthani Camp. Boforo, the war broke out Captain Taylor was in charge of .the Okaramio school.

Mr. J. R. MacCormack, while filling the position of senior clerk, in the District Land Office, was brought into close contact with. the' metubers of the Land Board, and yesterday the board tpok advantage of Mr. MacCormack's promotion to bo chief clerk in the head office to make hifii a presentation and congratulate him on his advancement. The Commissioner of Grown Lands (Mr. G. H. M. M'Clure). in handing Mr. MacCormack a cisarette-case, said that he had been asked bv the members of tho board to 'make him that gift to mark the happy times thev had had in their' association with him for ninny years past. Mr. J. Dawson said that he had been fifteen years on the board, and he had always been treated* with tho greatest courtesy and consideration by Mr. MacCormack, and he had always been ready to give his advice to those requiring it. The other members of the board also spoke ill felicitous terms of Mr. MacCormack's services. The latter suitably responded. Mi\ MacCormack. has been succeeded by Mr. W. S. Hardy from the head office.

This' evening Canterbury footballers will mako a presentation to Mr. F. T. Evans, president of the Canterbury Rngby Union, who is leaving Christchurch.
