CHRISTCHURCH HOSPITAL MATRON
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christshurcii, September 2-f
An echo of tho recent' decision of the Hospital Board not to reappoint Miss Thurston to tho position of matron at tlio ChristcliuTch Hospital ,was heard at the board's meeting to-day, when another letter was read from Miss Thurston. Miss Thurston acknowledged receipt of the sum of J3125, which had been placed to her credit in tlio National Bank. "1 presume," sho continued, "that three months of tlio time is in lieu of notice and three months for leave of absence. Is this the board's intention, as I would respectfully call to your notice tho, fact that in 19W the board generously granted nie eight months' leave of absence on full pay, which owing to the war I waR unable to avail myself of. Probably this h«fj been overlooked." Miss Thurston' added that she expected to be'returning to Christchuych at an early date. • The chairman, Mr. F, Horrell, 6aid that prior to the war Miss Thurston had betn given eight months' leave of absence as a holiday, but she had not taken idvai.tage of it. He did not know whether sho was entitled to/extra pay now. Mr. W. J. Walter moved that Miss Thurston should be .paid eight .months' salaiy. Sho had not had her ho'ii'ay, and was entitled to the salary in lieu o' it'. ... The motioii was earned.
