The question of providing special hospital for venereal cases was discussed at to-day's meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board. 'J.'ho discussion arose out of the following ilauso in the Institutions Committee's report:— "ihrough the amendment of- the Public Health Act tho patrols appointed are finding cases that require to be treated in an institution, and it will be a matter lor the board to consider at an early date tho best means of providing tho accommo.Ution ami attendance required." . 'l'Jie chairman said tho board had power under the Social Hygiene Act to establish a special hospital. Sir. Norton, chairman of the committee, said the mutter was a serious one lor the community, and. something must be done. Tlicj must handle the question ieariessly, and all must put their (shoulders to tho wheel. Air. 0. Bradley suii that great objection had been raised by the women-folk to tho proposal to set apart a speuial hospital l'or these oases. it was pointed out by a lady member at' the board that womeu did not object lo a hospital ffhero all cases woulu bo treated, but they objected tc. women being sii.gled out tor treatment while'the men were left scot-free. It was decided to reitt the question of establishing a hospital for venereal cases to the Hospital Committee.
