It was slated, an' from an official source, that in two years Germany spent 12J- millions sterling in Europe for tho purpose of corrupting the Press. These figures were apart, from Count Bernstorlf's enormous propaganda fund in the United States. Caillaux was alleged to have assisted the "Bonnet Rouge" to the extent of J;1200. Caillaux was the subject, of 'Suspicion almost throughout the war, but his actual arrest was due to the discovery, as the result of American investigations, of grave iucidents in connection with a visit he made to Argentina in 1915. The trial of 8010 Pasha, nnd other afl'nirs of the kind, showed that Caillaux was connected with all the chief pro-German activities jn i'rance.J
