WAIRARAPA CALEDONIAN SOCIETY
By -Telegraph-Special Correspondent.'Masterton, September '23'. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Caledonian -Society was .held'-to-night.- Alr.Calwell presided. ■ Air. J. W.,- Henderson wrote tendering his resignation as a director, of the society, in favour of Mr. W. J. White'. The resignation was accepted and Mr. .Henderson was appointed a steward of the piping events at- the annual- gathering. Tho secretary was instructed to write to-the secretary of the Canterbury Society acknowledging the receipt of a letter introducing a Ohristoliurch member. Jho resignation of Mr. R. Judd as a member of the society was accepted. J lie following new members were elected: Messrs. Frank M'Ewen, A. C. Holms, L. Alex. M'Kay, H. E. Gordon. Angus Scott, Donald Douglas,- L.'AVillou and John Stephens. ,ln connection with the resolution carried at a previous meeting to issue a challenge to the Masterton A. and P. Society, that its committee meet .the Caledonian directors in a tug-of-war, u was decided to give a oilver cup as a prize to bo competed fw twice' yearly once, at tho A. and P. meeting, and once at the Caledonian gathering. It was decided to delete tho amateur running events from the sporls pro, gramme, and to substitute a Sheffield Handicap of ISO yards. A kilties' race was also added to the programme. A. vole of thanks was tendered lo Mr. A reus for his efforts in promoting the welfare of the society in Carterlon. It was decided to invite Air. J. Craigie, M.P., to' give a lecture in Mnsterlon in fne near future Messrs. Mackenzie, Hoskiugs, Colter, and MlJwen were appointed a commitXee.to report ou a proposal to form a branch of tho society in Carterton. Arrangements for a reception lo bo lenilcred lo Sir Waller Buchanan next Saturday wero lefl in the hands of Hie society.
