LOWER HUTT AFFAIRS
MEETING. OF BOROUGH COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting of the Lower Hutt. Borough Council was hold last evening. There, were present fciio Mayor (Mr. E. P. Bishworth) Councillors A. J. West, A. J. Hobbs, A. Macaskill, E. Guinness, W. B. Hardy, \V. Knight, J. Mitchell. Tho Palmerston NorMi-Borough Council wrote submitting for the approval of the council its resolution with refereiico to Government grants to returned soldiers for tho purchase of homes. The resolution was.received. Mr. A. Pryde wroto protesting against the council using his land at the pumping etation. The matter is being attended to. Mr. George Bird wrote advising having purchased Mr. Peter's office building at the Main Bridge, and asking' that the council' agree to, a transfer of the ground lease lroin Mr. .Peters to him, and also asking lor permission to erect a verandah to tile buikliiig. Permission was granted. The secretary, Knighf/s Syndicate, wrote complaining ot tne overflowing of a drain which flooded tno syndicate's property. It was resolved that the council would accept no liability, and that the syndicate bo instructed to clean out the drain themselves. Messrs, Orr Bros, were granted permission to pipe and hll in tlie water-course through Lots 13 and 14, Epuni Street. Mr. A. W. W. Badgent wrote applying for permission to erect a fonce on the water course on Harnett Estate to_ the north-west of his property in King's Koad, to prevent stock from destroying his hedge.—Permission, was granted. ■ Tho, Hutt Boy Scouts were granted the uso of tho Recreation Ground for a carnival on January 22, 1920, with permission to make an admission charge. Messrs. Duggan Bros, wrote asking permission' to erect a workshop and to install a boiling-dawn, plant on the sanitary pad.dock. The matter was left in tho hands 'of tho engineer to report. Tho town clerk, Petone, wrote notifying his council's refusal of the Lower Hutt Council's offer to gas matters.—The letter was received. The Hutt Football Club was granted permission to make a charge for admission to Recreation Ground on Saturday next, the occasion being & match U'tween University aJid Hutt. 'Die Mayor (Mr. E. P. Eisliworth) moved, in accordance with notice of motion: "That alili previous resolutions restricting the extension of gas Bervices be rescinded." This was agreed to. Tho engineer's report stated that in? the month of July the gas purchased amounted to 1,093,001) cubic feet;. 1,022,100 cubic feet had been consumed for domestic purposes, 112,800 cubic feet for power, and 39,100 cubic feet for street lighting. It was-resolved to write to the Petono Borough Council asking if street lights were again in use in Petone, and, if so, whether permission would bo given to the Lower Hujt Council to resume street; lighting in the borough.
