'INSTITUTE DEFEATS BROOKLYN. Institute and Brooklyn met at the As-, soeiation Park on Saturday last in tho semi-final of the Charity Clip. Weather conditions wcro far from satisfactory for good football, the strong wind which blew across the 'field, niaile accurate play impossible. The conditions in the first half favoured Brooklyn, yet Institute had the best of.the game, their halves seldom allowing the Brooklyn forwards to become unngerous. The Institute forwards who liftd been hovering round the Brooklyn goai, gave Bel liamie an anxious time, Portnr on one occasion sending in a shot which the former', partially saved, the ball; however, rolled over the line, but ns it was hard for the rel'tree to decide owing to there being no goal-line, he gave tile ' defendant sidu the benefit of tho doubt—it was a lucky let-olf for Brooklyn, From one of Brooklyn's occasional raids on the Institute goal Galloway was (successful in beating Tarrant with a splendid shot. Brooklyn, 1; Institute, 0. Tho success was. however, short-lived, as Houston and Mai ley carried tho ball up the'left wing, the farmer centred to Boss in .front of the goal, who converted. Maris had already wou the- championship, and their 'prospects of winning the double were bright. The Greens - kicked, against ft heavy wind, and soon had Wieir opponents', goal in'danger., but Pore (Forirua back) relieved the pressure with a nice kick io the line. At Juut-timo both teams had scored one goal each, and when time was sounded Thorndon had ■ addqd another goal o their thus giving them the cup' for the reason.
