TERCENTENARY OF THE PILGRIM FATHERS
The'tercentenary of the Pilgrim Fathers is to be celebrated next year in England, the United htates. and Holland, on an extensive scale. Details of the proposals drawn up by the executive ot tne Anglo-American- SocuCy in consultation with 'Mr. John A. btewurt (representing the American Committee) wore made known at a meeting ot the society held at tho Cental Hall, Westminster. The principal icons in the programme aro:— May and June.—Meetings and ceremou ies at Scrooby, Austerlielu, Boston, Cambridge, aild other places, to celebrate the origins of the Pilgrim movement. It is hoped tlnV: tho old hunie of the VMiingtons, at Sulgrave, Norttiantb;may be sufficiently restored to illow of a formal inauguration about this time. Visit of British and American dels giutions to Holland (date to be fixed after consultation with tho Netherlands Min. ifiter in London and the Leyden Committee). Meetings a: Amsterdam, Leyden, Delftshaven, and The Hague, to commemorate the sojourn of the Pilgrim Fathers in Holland (ICO9-20) and their departure for the. New Yorld. .•• '.ig'jst i to .September 16.—Celobralions fit Southampton, Plymouth, etc., and meetings throughout tho English-speak-ing world referring to the sailing of the Mayflower, to. culminate in tho flailing of a New Mayflower from Southampton and Plymouth, carrying returning American delegates, and also a '.British and Dutch Committee, to America, vU Bos ton. Mass, September-October. — Celebrations in A morion. Inception in Nc.w Plymouth, Boston, etc., followed by reception in Ne\v York and tour of the United States. November 9-11.—Celebration throughout English-speaking world in honour of the Mayflower Compact, and of the planting of free institutions in' America.' Last Thursday in November—Universal celebration of ''Thanksgiving Day." December.—Universal celebration, including memorial church services, of the arrival of (die Pilgrim Fathers at New Plymouth." December. Popular celebrations daring 1920 will, it is hoped, include pageants; inauguration of monuments, university functions, establishment of lectureships, scholarships, etc., memorial dramatic and opera Mo performances, memorial publications, international sports, yacht raoes, aeroplane, motor boats, distance motoi races, polo, tennis, golf etc,; musical jubilee concerts, band concerts, etc.
