The death occurred iu Blenheim a few days ago of one of Marlborough a pioneer settlers, Mi. Frederick Smith, formerly of Tua Marina. The deceased, who was 59 rears of age- emigrated to New Zealand in 1857, sailing' in tho John Mastermau, and arriving ai kelson in February of that year. Mr. Smith settled in the Tua Marina district in IS3B. He assisted in the original survey .of the various farms in the Tua Marina, district, and resided in Hint locality until 1898, when he retired from farming, and took up his' residence in Blenheim, the deceased-is survived by a widow, t\yi! eons (Mr. F.
