I'd trick, of Hawker Street, bad his motorcar removed from hia private garage on Saturday, August 2, the machine Deing •recovered the following Monday in Maurice Torrace. The sequel was enacted in the court yesterday before Mr. B. Page, S.M., when a youth named John Watt, 18 years of age, a bricklayer's apprentice, was charged that on August 8 at Johneonvii'.e he committed the theft of 15b. worth of benzino, the property of Alex. Moore; theft of 21s. worth of benzino, the property of D. S. Patrick, and with wiifully damaging a lorry to the oxtent of ss. Detective-Sergeant Eowle said that on the ovening -of August 2 the defendant and another youth removed a motor-car from Mr. Patrick's private garage and went for a joy ride, Next day they wanted more benzine, and this was stolen from' Mr. Moore's motor-lorry in the Ngahauranga Gorge. Watt pleaded guilty to all threo charges, and it was stated that there was no'ching previously known fi.jrniiist the defendant. For the theft of tho two lots of bejizine Watt was lined 'J5 and costs' in each case, and was also ordered to refund the value of the benzine, and for damaging a lorry he was fined 20s„ and ordered to pny the amount of the damage, 55., the (in'e3 to bo paid at the rate of dfil per week. Tho joy ride thus cost this youth m is.
